ASSAM WILDERNESS EXPERIENCE
MANAS · NAMERI · KAZIRANGA
Start a really good trip into the wild parts of Assam, which will both begin and end in Guwahati – a lively city. From the shores of the large Brahmaputra River, go into an area of thick woods, grassland, and rivers which are home to some of the rarest, most well-known animals in India.
Your trip will start in Manas National Park, a Tiger Reserve and UNESCO World Heritage Site, at the feet of the Himalayas in Bhutan. You could see golden langurs, wild water buffalo, elephants, and the Bengal Florican – which is in danger of dying out – as well as a lot of different kinds of birds.
Then go to the calm wildness of Nameri National Park, which is known for being lovely and having thick forests by the river. This place is good for people who watch birds and love nature, and it gives you the chance to see the rare white-winged wood duck, hornbills, and groups of wild elephants. Have a walk with a guide inside the forest, and feel the fun of rafting on the clear waters of the Jia Bhoroli River.
The trip will finish in the world-famous Kaziranga National Park, the home of the famous Greater One-Horned Rhinoceros, as well as tigers, swamp deer, and wild buffalo. Kaziranga is spread over large grasslands, and is also a place birds love, with almost 500 types that have been noted – from eagles and pelicans to storks and waterfowl that move with the seasons. Safaris on elephants in the morning and jeep trips in the evening get you near the park's most famous animals.
This trip around the wild parts of Assam gives a mix of amazing sights, exciting safaris, and chances to meet the people and culture. Every stop shows the special variety of life in Northeast India, and lets you enjoy the kind welcome of local people in eco-lodges and places to stay in the jungle. By the time your trip is over, you will have memories you won't forget of Assam's rich animal life, pure forests, and the strong beauty of India's eastern edge.

Guwahati – Manas National Park (190 km / 4.30 hrs)
After having breakfast, go to Manas National Park – a Project Tiger Reserve and a World Heritage Site. When you get there, check into The Lodge. In the afternoon, take a walk in nature around the lodge.
Manas National Park – which is a World Heritage Site – is right under the Bhutan Himalayas; it has plants that grow in warm, wet areas and is fed by the Manas and Beki rivers and some other streams and small rivers. Mathanguri, at the north end, has a wonderful view of the Manas River rushing down and the wooded mountains on the Bhutan side. This is the international border between India and Bhutan – and a chance to see the rare and in danger Golden Langur. Because of its height and forests and grasslands, the bird life is very interesting, with the Great Indian Hornbill sometimes being seen. The Bengal Florican is another bird people look for here.
